Data Cable Interface Types

Jan 07, 2026

Classified by Function

  • Charging Cable: Only supports power transmission, not data transmission. Commonly found in inexpensive or specialized applications (such as car chargers), with interfaces mostly being Micro-USB or Type-C (charging-only version).
  • Data Transfer Cable: Supports data synchronization, such as file transfer between mobile phones and computers. Interfaces include USB-A, USB-C, Lightning, etc.
  • Video Transmission Cable: Used for devices such as monitors and projectors, such as HDMI and DisplayPort cables, which can transmit high-definition video and audio signals.
  • Multifunctional Integrated Cable: Integrates charging, data transmission, and video output functions, such as a Type-C to HDMI cable that supports Power Delivery (PD) fast charging.

Classified by Interface Type

  • USB-A Interface Cable: Traditional rectangular interface, widely used in computers, charging adapters, and other devices, supporting USB 2.0 (480Mbps) or USB 3.0 (5Gbps) transmission.
  • USB-B Interface Cable: Square interface, mostly found in peripherals such as printers and scanners, and is gradually being replaced by Type-B or Micro-USB.
  • Micro-USB Interface Cable: Small-sized interface, once widely used in Android phones and power banks, with a transmission speed of USB 2.0 level, now gradually being replaced by Type-C.
  • Type-C Interface Cable: Symmetrical design, supports reversible plugging, transmission speed can reach USB 4.0 (40Gbps), and is compatible with fast charging (such as PD 100W) and video output (such as 4K@60Hz).
  • Lightning Interface Cable: Apple's proprietary interface, only used for iPhones, iPads, and other devices, supporting USB 2.0 transmission and 20W fast charging.

Classified by Transmission Protocol

  • USB 2.0 Cable: Maximum transmission rate of 480Mbps, suitable for low-bandwidth requirements (such as mice and keyboards).
  • USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 Cable: Transmission speed increased to 5Gbps-20Gbps, supporting high-definition video transmission and high-speed file copying.
  • Thunderbolt 3/4 Cable: Based on the Type-C interface, the transmission speed reaches 40Gbps, and can simultaneously output 8K video and high-speed data.
